Animal Healthcare Research

The principle focus of the BRDC Animal Healthcare Program is on the genomics and health of swine.

  • The majority of our currently-active research projects deal directly with swine. And two others could directly impact the swine pharmaceutical industry.

  • BRDC has a strong intellectual property position in the development and use of porcine embryonic stem cells. And we are funding research to clone swine.

  • BRDC has made a substantial commitment in the area of swine genomics, with a special emphasis on gene expression in the tissues of the immune system. BRDC is also supporting work to identify genes associated with disease resistance and susceptibility.

  • BRDC is funding research on the development of new vaccines for a variety of production animals, including cattle, swine and sheep.

BRDC is continually looking for additional partners to participate in its unique approach to conducting research and development—all for the purpose of advancing the nation's agricultural economy.

We are always willing to discuss the inclusion of new private-sector partners with those willing to increase a small, annual research investment by five- to twenty-fold.
